Make AVIF images usable in JPG-only tools
AVIF to JPG creates a broadly compatible photo copy for editors, upload forms, catalogs, and document workflows that do not accept AVIF. JPG and JPEG name the same output format. Use the conversion for compatibility, then retain the AVIF source when its compression, transparency, or extended color information still matters.
AVIF and JPG: efficient web images versus broad compatibility
AVIF is an image format based on the AV1 image file specification. It can store photographs with strong compression and supports features such as transparency and high dynamic range. Modern browsers handle AVIF well, but some editors, upload forms, document tools, and older devices still reject it.
JPG and JPEG are two extensions for the same broadly supported photographic format. Create that compatibility copy when a client, catalog, document, or form requires it, then inspect gradients and fine detail. JPEG is lossy and cannot retain AVIF transparency or its full extended color range, so keep the AVIF original when those capabilities matter.
Choose JPG only when the destination needs it
| Need | Best starting point |
|---|---|
| Upload to a JPG-only form | Create a JPEG copy and match any required dimensions or file-size limit. |
| Keep transparent pixels | Use PNG when the destination supports transparency. Ordinary JPEG requires a solid background.AVIF to PNG |
| Keep the efficient web original | Retain AVIF when the publishing stack already supports it and no compatibility copy is required. |
Balance JPEG quality, dimensions, and background
Choose a solid background
JPEG cannot store transparent pixels. If the AVIF contains transparency, select the background the destination expects and inspect soft or semi-transparent edges after flattening.
Test gradients and fine detail
Both AVIF and JPEG may use lossy compression. Start with a representative image containing texture, gradients, and sharp edges, then choose the lowest JPEG size that still looks acceptable in the receiving tool.
Match the required dimensions
Leave resizing off when the destination accepts the source dimensions. When a form specifies width, height, or file size, create a delivery copy for that requirement rather than replacing the original.
How to convert AVIF to JPEG online
Upload one AVIF, keep JPEG selected, and start with the original dimensions. Choose a background if the source has transparency, convert it, and inspect the result in the exact editor or form that rejected AVIF before processing the rest of the batch.
The free allowance is 10 files per batch, up to 10 MB each, and 20 conversions per 24 hours. No account or watermark. Files are uploaded for server-side processing, then scheduled for deletion after 24 hours on the Free plan.
Deliver consistent JPG copies from AVIF assets
Save the required JPEG quality, dimensions and background color as a recipe for later client or catalog batches. Keep the AVIF originals separately.
A free account includes 1 saved conversion recipe. Paid plans add larger batches, more recipes and delivery to Google Drive or Dropbox after you start each batch.
