WebP and JPEG: web delivery versus broad image compatibility
WebP is an image format developed by Google for web delivery. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, giving websites several ways to reduce image downloads. A picture saved from a website may therefore be WebP even when the original upload was JPEG. Some older tools still reject it.

Check what JPEG cannot carry over
Transparency will be flattened
A WebP can contain transparent pixels while JPEG cannot. Review the background of product cutouts, logos, and overlays before delivering the converted image.
Conversion cannot restore detail
If the WebP was already saved with lossy compression, JPEG encoding cannot recover missing texture or sharpness. It introduces another compression pass, so preserve the WebP source.
Expect a different file size
JPEG is broadly compatible, not automatically smaller. Modern WebP files often use less space at a similar visual quality, especially for web delivery.
