How to compress an image to 20 KB

  1. Step 1

    Upload your photo

Add a JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC photo or scan from your device, a URL, Google Drive, or Dropbox.

  2. Step 2

    Check the size and dimensions

20 KB and Resize if needed are already set. If the form asks for exact dimensions, set them in Batch settings first so the photo isn't reduced further.

  3. Step 3

    Compress and download

Each image lands at or under 20 KB, and the list shows the final size. Download the file and upload it to your form.

What it takes to fit a photo in 20 KB

Quality first, then dimensions

A phone photo is usually several megabytes. FastConvert first searches for the highest quality that fits; when even the lowest quality is too large, it reduces the width and height in proportion until the photo fits under 20 KB.

Set the dimensions a form requires

If the form specifies a width and height, set them in Batch settings. Cropping to those dimensions first keeps more detail than letting the photo shrink on its own, because no pixels are spent on unused areas.

Keep JPG for forms

Most upload forms expect JPG. With Original format, JPG photos stay JPEG. If your photo is HEIC or PNG, choose JPEG as the output format in Batch settings before compressing.

When a 20 KB limit comes up

Each setup can be saved as a recipe and applied again when the next batch arrives.

  • Application and exam forms

Photo and signature fields often accept only small files. Bring both under the limit in one batch.

Compress image to 20 KB FAQ

How do I compress an image to 20 KB?

Upload the photo, keep the 20 KB limit and Resize if needed that are already set, and select Compress images. FastConvert lowers the quality first and reduces the dimensions only if needed, then shows the final size before you download it.

Do I need to resize an image to get it under 20 KB?

Only when quality alone can't reach 20 KB, which is common for full-size phone photos. The proportions are kept. Turn off Resize if needed to keep the original dimensions; the image then fails with an explanation if it can't fit.

Can I resize a photo to exact dimensions and 20 KB at the same time?

Yes. Set the width, height, and fit in Batch settings, for example the photo size an application form requests, then compress. Dimensions are only reduced further if the photo still doesn't fit under 20 KB.

Can I compress an image to 10 KB, 30 KB, or 50 KB instead?

Yes. Type any size from 5 KB in Maximum file size. Smaller limits usually need smaller dimensions; Resize if needed reduces them for you.

Why does a 20 KB photo look blurry?

20 KB holds very little detail, so the photo is either small or strongly compressed. Crop to the area that matters, such as the face, and use the dimensions the form asks for rather than a larger size.

Does the image compressor work on phones, tablets, Mac, Windows, and Linux?

Yes. FastConvert works in a modern web browser on phones, tablets, and desktop computers, with no image app to install. Available upload and download choices can vary with the browser and device.

Are images uploaded to the image compressor private, and when are they deleted?

Yes. FastConvert transfers files over encrypted connections and stores originals and results temporarily for server-side processing and download. Files are kept for 24 hours on Free, 1 week on Basic, or 1 week on Pro, then scheduled for automatic deletion. We do not sell or rent personal data, use uploaded images for advertising, or use them to train general-purpose AI models. If you choose Google Drive or Dropbox, that provider supplies or receives the selected files as part of your request. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
