JPEG is commonly used for photographs and broadly compatible images with compact file sizes. PNG is a practical output for graphics, screenshots, and images that need transparency or lossless storage.
Changing image formats can affect file size, transparency, compatibility, and visual quality. Apply the same dimensions and output settings across the batch to create consistent delivery files.

PNG is useful when a downstream editor, design tool, or publishing system specifically requires a lossless PNG file. The conversion changes the container used for future saves, but it does not reverse the compression that was already applied to the JPEG source.
PNG preserves the pixels it receives exactly; it cannot reconstruct texture removed by JPEG compression or erase ringing and block artifacts already present in the source.
Photographs contain many colors and subtle variations, which are expensive to store losslessly. A PNG copy of a JPEG photo commonly grows without looking better.
PNG supports an alpha channel, but converting an opaque JPEG does not identify or remove its background. Background removal is a separate editing step.
Keep the source dimensions and use the default PNG compression first. Increase compression effort when a smaller output is worth more processing time; it should not change the decoded pixels.
