Create a lossless PNG copy from a WebP image
WebP to PNG is useful when a design tool, document workflow, or upload form requires PNG, especially for a transparent still image. PNG uses lossless compression, but that does not recover details already removed from a lossy WebP and does not preserve WebP animation. Keep the source when those characteristics matter.
WebP and PNG: web compression versus lossless compatibility
WebP is an image format developed by Google for web delivery. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency, and animation. Those capabilities can reduce page downloads, but a design tool, document workflow, or upload form may still require a PNG instead.
PNG, or Portable Network Graphics, uses lossless compression and supports transparent pixels. It is widely used for logos, screenshots, diagrams, and interface assets. PNG does not make an already compressed source more detailed, and photographic images can become substantially larger than WebP.
FastConvert creates one still PNG from each WebP file. It can preserve transparency in that still image, but it does not preserve WebP animation. Check the output dimensions, transparent edges, and file size before replacing an asset in a design or publishing workflow.
Decide what the PNG needs to preserve
| Source characteristic | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Transparent still image | PNG can retain the alpha channel. Inspect semi-transparent edges on the final background. |
| Animated WebP | The PNG output is a still image. Keep the original when animation is required. |
| Photograph without transparency | PNG may be much larger. Use JPEG for a broad-compatibility photo copy when lossy output is acceptable.WEBP to JPEG |
Preserve transparency without inflating dimensions
Keep or flatten transparency deliberately
PNG can retain the alpha channel. Leave flattening disabled when the destination needs transparent pixels, and preview semi-transparent edges on the final background before delivering the batch.
Expect photographic files to grow
A WebP photograph can be much smaller than its PNG copy because PNG preserves the decoded pixels without lossy compression. Convert for compatibility or transparency requirements, not because PNG guarantees a smaller download.
Treat animation separately
FastConvert produces one still image per uploaded WebP. An animated source needs an animation-aware destination and should be kept alongside any PNG preview or fallback.
How to convert WEBP to PNG online
Convert one representative WebP at its original dimensions. Check transparency, edge quality, and the selected still frame in the receiving application, then reuse those settings only for sources with the same delivery requirements.
The free allowance is 10 files per batch, up to 10 MB each, and 20 conversions per 24 hours. No account or watermark. Files are uploaded for server-side processing, then scheduled for deletion after 24 hours on the Free plan.
Prepare repeat PNG deliveries for a design tool
Keep source dimensions unless the receiving template specifies another size, then save a PNG recipe with transparency preserved. Apply it to the next batch of WebP assets for that tool.
A free account includes 1 saved conversion recipe. Paid plans add larger batches, more recipes and delivery to Google Drive or Dropbox after you start each batch.
