Rasterize SVG artwork at the right PNG dimensions
SVG to PNG turns resolution-independent vector artwork into a fixed grid of pixels. It is useful for apps, documents, social platforms, and upload forms that require a raster image. The most important choice is the output width and height because a PNG cannot be enlarged later with the same sharpness as the SVG source.
SVG and PNG: scalable vector artwork versus fixed pixels
SVG, or Scalable Vector Graphics, describes shapes, paths, text, and effects rather than storing a fixed pixel grid. It is well suited to logos, icons, diagrams, and illustrations that need to remain sharp at different sizes in browsers and design tools.
PNG is a raster image made from a fixed number of pixels. It uses lossless compression and supports transparency, which makes it practical for documents, presentations, social platforms, and applications that do not accept SVG. Once rasterized, however, it no longer scales indefinitely without softening.
Converting SVG to PNG renders the vector artwork at the width and height you choose. The output dimensions are therefore part of the conversion itself. Keep the SVG as the editable master and create separate PNG sizes for materially different placements.
Choose PNG dimensions before rasterizing the SVG
| Use | Dimension guidance |
|---|---|
| Website or application icon | Export the exact pixel size required by the component, including any high-density variant it uses. |
| Document or presentation | Use enough pixels for the intended physical size and display resolution without creating an unnecessarily large file. |
| Artwork reused at many sizes | Keep the SVG master and generate each PNG size from it instead of enlarging an earlier PNG. |
Control raster size, proportions, and transparency
Set dimensions for the final placement
Export at the actual pixel size the destination needs. For a high-density display, prepare the larger pixel version required by that interface rather than enlarging a small PNG after conversion.
Preserve the artwork proportions
Keep the SVG aspect ratio unless the design intentionally needs a different shape. Stretching the raster output can distort logos, icons, diagrams, and typography.
Check transparency and fine strokes
PNG can retain a transparent SVG background. Inspect thin lines, small text, shadows, and transparent edges at the final display size, where rasterization choices are easiest to judge.
How to convert SVG to PNG online
Choose the exact pixel dimensions required by the destination, keep the aspect ratio, and convert one representative SVG. Inspect fine edges and transparency at 100% before applying the same dimensions to a batch of similarly sized artwork.
The free allowance is 10 files per batch, up to 10 MB each, and 20 conversions per 24 hours. No account or watermark. Files are uploaded for server-side processing, then scheduled for deletion after 24 hours on the Free plan.
Export a consistent set of PNG assets from SVG masters
For icons going into the same interface, save their target dimensions and resize fit as a PNG recipe. Export a separate batch for artwork that needs a different placement size.
A free account includes 1 saved conversion recipe. Paid plans add larger batches, more recipes and delivery to Google Drive or Dropbox after you start each batch.
