How to unzip files online

  1. Step 1

    Add the archives

Drag ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, 7Z, or RAR files onto the page, browse for them, or pick them from Google Drive or Dropbox.

  2. Step 2

    Open the files

See every file inside with its folder and size, and download only the ones you need.

  3. Step 3

    Extract all

Choose a folder on your device. Each archive is extracted into its own subfolder, with its folders kept.

ZIP, TAR, 7Z, and RAR: what this extractor opens

ZIP

The most common archive on Windows and macOS. Standard and password-protected ZIP files open here, with AES-256 or ZipCrypto encryption.

TAR

An uncompressed bundle used on Linux and servers. It is read as it streams, so even very large TAR files open quickly.

TAR.GZ / TGZ

A TAR compressed with gzip, common for source code, backups, and website files. It is decompressed in your browser.

7Z

The 7-Zip format, often smaller than a ZIP. Password-protected 7z files open too, including those that also hide their file names.

RAR

Made by WinRAR, common for large downloads. RAR4 and RAR5 archives open here, with or without a password.

Unzip files FAQ

Are my files uploaded when I unzip them here?

No. Archives are opened and extracted in your browser, and the files are saved straight to your device. Nothing is uploaded to FastConvert, so this works without an account. Archives you pick from Google Drive or Dropbox are read directly from that provider by your browser.

How do I open a ZIP file?

Add the ZIP file to this page to see what is inside, then download single files or extract everything to a folder. Without a website: on Windows, right-click the ZIP file and choose Extract All. On a Mac, double-click it. Use this page on a computer where you cannot install software, for TAR.GZ archives, or for archives stored in Google Drive or Dropbox.

How do I extract a TAR.GZ file?

Add the .tar.gz or .tgz file, then choose Extract all, or open it and download the files you need. It is decompressed and unpacked in one step. On Linux or macOS, the command tar -xzf archive.tar.gz does the same in a terminal.

Can I unzip a password-protected ZIP file?

Yes, if you know the password. A lock appears next to protected archives and a Password field is shown: enter it before you download or extract the files. ZIP files encrypted with AES-256 or ZipCrypto are supported, as are password-protected 7z and RAR files. The password never leaves your browser.

Can I unzip files from Google Drive or Dropbox?

Yes. Choose Google Drive or Dropbox and select the archives. For ZIP files, only the parts needed are downloaded: listing one reads its table of contents, not the whole archive. 7z and RAR files are downloaded in full first. Access to the picked files expires after about an hour, so extract them soon after picking them.

Can I extract everything to a folder in Firefox, Safari, or on a phone?

Not with folders: only Chrome and Edge on a computer let a website write files into a folder you choose. In other browsers, Download all saves up to 50 files as separate downloads, without their folders, and you can always open an archive and download files one by one. Your browser may ask once to allow multiple downloads.

Is there a file size limit?

You can extract up to 50 archives at once. ZIP and TAR archives are read and written as streams; 7z and RAR archives are extracted through temporary space on your device. Their size is limited only by the free space on your device. Empty folders and system files such as .DS_Store and __MACOSX are left out.

How do I open a RAR file?

Add the .rar file to this page to see what is inside, then download single files or extract them all. RAR4 and RAR5 archives open here, including password-protected ones, without installing WinRAR. Archives split into several parts, such as .part1.rar, are not supported: open them with 7-Zip or WinRAR, with every part in the same folder.

How do I open a 7z file?

Add the .7z file, then download the files you need or extract them all. Password-protected 7z files open too, including those that hide their file names until the password is entered. Windows 11 also opens 7z files; on a Mac, use this page or The Unarchiver.
